OK,  instead of opening a new thread every time, I'm gonna only update this one when I want to post some riding stuff. To kick off, I present to you my cold winter day ride at

Frederick Watershed, Feb. 3, 2007
(4.53 of 5 on mtbr, http://trails.mtbr.com/cat/unite ... 168293_4553crx.aspx)

It was a cold winter morning. The ground was frozen and covered with some snow. Temperature at the trailhead was 18F (about -8 degree C).

Trails were silent under virgin snow, and quitely a mountain stream was flowing.

Total ride time: 2.5 hours, distance: ~10 miles. And the bike was clean

In fact, the traction was very good (if not better) for downhill. Technical uphill however was another story. It was hard to pick a good line because all rocks were covered, and rear wheel just kept slipping.

It was a good workout, though.

Frederick Watershed, night ride (sort of), Feb. 8, 2007

It snowed another four inch-ish Tuesday night, so the white blanket on the ground just got thicker. Four of us did an eight-mile loop in about one and half hour before it got completely dark. Then we all decided to head home since it was getting too cold to keep riding.

I had winter boots on, but still it took me about 10 minutes to warm up my numb toes in the car.

Tomorrow morning I'll be riding with another group in Watershed. It'll be probably around -10 degree Celsius.

Frederick Watershed + Gambrill, Feb. 9, 2007

Temperature was at low teens. Equipped with all my winter gears, I managed to stay out for about 3 hours roaming around the Shed and Gambrill. By now, I'm not any more surprised that the snow drags the rear wheel hard while knocking the front off straight line.

Started out from Sandflat to the Salamander Rock, passed the Thurmon Overlook, took the blue trail and went down Death March, finally rode gravel road back to parking lot . Twelve riders, two hours, and around eleven miles. Snow really slows you down.
