I have decided to take go with a Mountain Bike because seeing the country counts as much as riding for me.

I did a bit of bike shopping this evening and I saw a package that seems to match my needs at a local Giant shop.

Hi Tai,

Which Giant shop did you go to? If value for money is important to you, i suggest you shop around...have a local take you to a bike shop instead of going by yourself, it goes a long way. But, if you think it's too much of a hassle... then 3200 is not bad, or you might save a few hundred more on the second option.

Hey Eric,

Thanks for the advice!  I visited a few other shops today, maybe it was bias but the XTC 3 was still the most attractive package in that price range.  So I negotiated and knocked a little bit of the price and got a bunch of items to go with the bike.  It was within my budget and had the setup I was looking for.  (Plus, that impulse to buy!!!) It was a little irresistable.  So, YES!  I have a bike and I am eager to hit the road and the trails!  Very very excited!

I don't know if this is an appropriate question on this forum but have you rode with the guys on the MTB site?  Apparently they go out of town every Sat and Sun.

Haha...you have the same problem as i do.... Impulsive Purchase Syndrome, or IPS for short.   No worries, i think you got a good package.

I used to ride with the MTB crowd on the weekends, to places like NanJing or ride out to the surrounding provinces... if you can read chinese, you might like to check out the activity bulletin board.

Thank you all!  For your super warm welcome!  I have a mini trip with the people at the store where I bought my bike and thay will be going to She Shan on Sunday.  i am SUPER looking forward to it!  I think I remember CS mentioning that it is one of the closest place near SH where we can take our MTB to have a decent time.

I am so very touched with your kindness everyone and I definitely do hope to see you guys in person in the near future!  You are a great encouragement!  The riding on the weekends will take a good steer from my crazy clubbing days in SH.

Hi Eric!

Luckily, i can manage my chinese even though i spent most of my youthful days in Canada.  I am very much looking forward to ride with the guys at MTB.com.cn in July.  it looks like they have great trips lined up for the summer.  Seeing the country side is as strong as an impulse as riding for me so i definitely think I will have a blast, not to mention with my love for photography.  

As to IPS, cheers dude!
