Always the showman, Mario Cipollini (Domina Vacanze) showed off a new skin suit today. Aussie Michael Rogers (Quick.STep-Davitamon) with a new TT helmet from Lazer.

Big cheers were heard for Michael Boogerd (Rabobank) from the Dutch fans.

Bobby Julich (CSC) passes underneath the 1K to go banner.

Bradley McGee (Fdjeux.com) didn't quite have the power today, finishing fourth

Christophe Moreau (Crédit Agricole) was 12 seconds down in eighth place

Erik Zabel (T-Mobile) set for take-off

Iban Mayo (Euskaltel-Euskadi) came in twenty one seconds back. He'll be a threat in the mountains.

Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano (Liberty Seguros) will be hoping for a repeat of his 2002 time in yellow

Ivan Basso (Team CSC) - the 2002 Best Young Rider is considered a podium possibility in 2004

Jan Ullrich (T-Mobile) rode conservatively

Jens Voigt (CSC) put in a great ride today finishing seventh.

Lance Armstrong (US Postal) - his second place in the prologue is a strong start in his bid for Tour win number 6
