标题: Hello Everyone! [打印本页] 作者: fullerene 时间: 2007-10-21 23:03 标题: Hello Everyone! I just recently moved to Shanghai (2 weeks now), and a avid Road and Mt. Biker. I am unbelievably happy to see that a local cycling community exists in Shanghai. I brought both of my bikes with me so i can either ride my road bike or my mt. bike, not sure what people normally ride around here? I am currently a few blocks from Century Park and read about the evening rides. Are they still going on? and how about on the weekends? I would love to join a group to figure out the roads and meet some people.
Road bike: Bianchi
Mt. Bike: Gary Fisher

Greetings Chia and welcome to the English forum!
Shanghai is mainly a Road bike dominant city due to the fact that there isn't any hills around let alone mountains. There are trips to outskirts of SH like Nanjing or SuZhou for some MTB action but going there is a hassle if you take the train... activities are getting lesser as well because winter is approaching.
As for road bike, we pretty much do laps around the perimeter of Century Park every Tuesday and Thurday night starting at 7:30pm. Each lap is about 5KM+ and lap counts are up to you. Folks mainly gather there to practice or to catch up with friends so it's a good platform for meeting and making friends. Like MTB, there are less riders now due to the weather but a few hard cores still goes regularly.
It's always good to learn mandarin because most of the locals don't speak English. Make no mistake, we're in China now and when you're in a common community... knowing Mandarin will go further than you expect.
Cheers,
Eric.
P.S: Where are you from, Chia?作者: shuilidy 时间: 2007-10-22 12:46
I want to know if there is much cars in the road around the century park ? 作者: fastjudy 时间: 2007-10-22 14:02
There will always be cars on the road around century park unless you decide to ride after midnight. The saving grace is that there are LESS cars around Pudong area and the roads are much wider and in better condition than Puxi. Rest assured, riding around Century Park is as safe as it gets. 作者: fullerene 时间: 2007-10-22 20:31
Thanks for the very warm welcome Eric... I am from the USA, also from a flat area of the country so the fact that Shaghai is flat won't bother me too much. Will you be at century park riding tomorrow night? Where does everyone meet? If you or anyone else reading this post is going to be there be there look out for a person in green riding a Bianchi.
How about a ride this weekend. Will there be any groups heading in any direction i can join? I'm quite eager to learn where the locals like to ride.

No worries Chia, glad i could help out.
I only ride on Thursday night unfortunately but if you want to ride tomorrow, you can try your luck around Century Park... there will be riders doing their laps and the meeting point is at an under-pass hence you won't miss it.
On weekends, clubs like FHL, Bikehome and Prodir have their own training agenda riding on different routes....some in Puxi area, some in Pudong. Look for FHL in Yahoo, it's a riding community made out of Ex-pats from all over the world...it'll be easier for you to navigate there...perhaps even find a riding group that suits you! All the best.
