Hi all, just signed up to the forum. Whereabouts is the shop with all the bikes shown in the link above? Sorry I can't read chinese characters :s

Also can anyone also point out other bike shops around the Puxi area?

Thanks!

Hi there, welcome to the forums!

Where are you from and what sort of bikes are you interested in? Road? MTB?

There is a fair amount of bike shops located in the Puxi area... some bike shops are more equipped than the other depending on the type and brand they carry. If you can tell us more about what you are interested in then we'll be able to guide you better.

Cheers!
Eric.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the warm welcome :) I'm into MTBs. At the moment leaning towards a hardtail for off roading and a little bit of road riding. Might consider a full susser depending on prices here in Shanghai. A search in Google brought me to Labici and asite called bicycleshop.cn? Also speedcat. Do any of these places stock a good selection to choose from? Thanks again.

No worries, Glad i could help out.

I think it's safe here to say that Labici is too expensive and so is the Giant Shop located around the corner 20 meters away from Labici. I've not heard of bicycleshop.cn hence i won't comment on that and Speedcat is a little dodgy to deal with.... rest assured I'm not bias as i'm a foreigner here myself so i'll list out the ones i feel comfortable doing business with.

Shanghai Bikehome or better known as "Qi Dian" bike shop (the site you're in right now) has an actual shop at Chang Ning Road, no.1435. You can give a holla with this number: 520 61767 and someone will direct you to an English speaking person. They stock  brands like Trek, Giant and a few other local brands.

27bike.com is located at Urumuqi road, it's a little tricky to find them because they are located within a housing area. You can also give them a call: 64711056 and look for Yang Qi. 27 stocks more exotic brands like BMC, Yeti, De-Rosa, Fuji, Colnago, Scott and etc...

There are a few more which i'm not sure the exact address but i can bring you there, if you are up to it...you can always contact me at 1358 5959 559 and i'll act as your guide.

Cheers,
Eric.

^Thanks, appreciate the help.

Btw Eric, is it more worthwhile (in China) to buy a complete bike or frame + components and have a LBS assemble it? Thanks again!

It's better to buy seperately because you can get really good parts below (U.S)retail price. Then again, it really depends on what you have in mind as well.... if you are planning to buy a entry/mid level bike, it's better to purchase a complete bike for it's value for money package... mid or top notch stuff are better bought seperately. Hopes this helps!

Below US retail, that's a pretty good deal. I am looking towards mid-high end setup, nothing professional level or anything. So components may be the way to go.

Btw how is the quality of assembly at the local bike shops? I assume they know their stuff and are experienced enough to put together a bike.

Thanks :)

Went to Labici, the Giant store near Labici and Bikehome. Here's my initial impression for the benefit of other newbies like myself :)

Labici does stock some exotic (read expensive) bikes. Fairly good selection. Sales person was friendly too, although I was just enquiring. They look to be authorised dealers for Commencal (sweet looking bikes btw)

The Giant shop nearby Labici is on the expensive side. They do stock a fair amount of Giant bike and frames. Mostly Giant, I didn't really notice other makes.

Eric you're right. Bikehome was probably the best shop so far. They have a good selection of parts and decent pricing. Not sure about the customer service since I was just browsing but they look friendly. I was hoping that they had complete Giant bikes but i only saw Treks. They do have Giant frames and other brands (I'm guessing they are local ones).

If you are interested, there are few other shops worth a look with more exotic choices....

^Definitely. If I have time this weekend, I'll check out 27bike at Urumqi

Should I be careful of knock off parts? Or is it pretty much safe to say parts sold at most bike shops are genuine with warranty?
