The common mistake is that you read the sign with chinese vocabulary in your head. The same mistake is made when you speak, the conversations in your thought are in chinese and you back translate them into english when you speak hence it's wrong.... it's commonly known as "broken English".

The word "Balls" have 3 meanings in the Western culture. First it's referring to the object usually found in sports; "球“. Second; male genitals that comes in pairs. Third; GUTS or courage.

For example:

1) Basket balls, 球 (a lot of them, plural) ; "Where are the basket balls stored?"

2) Balls, 睾丸; "I'm gonna bust your balls!"

3) Balls, courage; "So tell me, do you have the balls to jump off this building?"
