Just moved here about 2 months ago. Brought my Ironhorse over but haven't had a chance to bike around- not overly familiar and no one to ride along. Anyone who stays near this place organise cycling trip?作者: fastjudy 时间: 2007-7-7 20:41
Welcome to Shanghai, China and to the English section of the forums.
First and foremost...there isn't any hills to ride around Shanghai, it's a giant flat land... If you have the time, you can tag along cycling groups who goes out of Shanghai to areas like Nanjing, hang zhou and etc....but they are not frequent. If you're an ex-patriot, you might have problems communicating unless of course....you're fluent in Chinese. I used to ride a mountain bike but after juggling between working hours and riding, i just couldn't cope with it so i switched to road bike instead... at least there are night rides around the century park every tuesday/thursday night and weekend morning rides to the airport. Anyhow...you'll have to decide on your own, good luck!
Eric.

I am from Singapore and have no problem communicating in Chinese. As a matter of fact, I am not looking for off road rides. More than happy to use my mountain bikes for road rides (may be I will change my tires to road tires one of these days). I used to pass by a river when driving into Seasons Villas. I think Regency Park is adjacent to the river. There seems to be a track along the river. Wondering anyone has tried the track? Looking ar Google earth, the track seems to lead to century park.作者: iamdb 时间: 2007-7-8 19:02
welcome to CHINA:)
Bikehome is a big family for all the bike lovers like u...:)
I live in CHANG NING District...i know that may of the bike riders are living in PU DONG...hehe...:)Try to call their attention. 作者: svironhouse 时间: 2007-7-8 20:38 I finally took my ironhorse out for a ride today. The MTB was packed into the container before I moved over to Shanghai. So it was "warehoused" for nearly 2.5 months now. Today's ride was short but certainly felt good. The weather was a bit cooler in the late afternoon after the shower. I rode out of Seasons Villa and turned right into Liushan Road. A short 400m is the entrance into the track along river. I was hoping to ride far to somewhere near Century Park but was rather disappointed to find that it ends at about 700m from Liushan Road. I don't think I hit FangDian Road which is adjacent to Century Park but I couldn't see any connecting track from the opposite side of road. I cycled back to Liushan Road, cut across the road and entered the river-side track again which is on the other side of Liushan Road. This side of the river track is equally short about 500m. The scenery is good with Liu Shu dotting the river banks. Many locals are seen either lazing around or exercising. The river water is not exactly very clean but I saw 2 men swimming in the river. The most irony thing is that there is a banner on the bridge which says "Treasure your life, don't swim". I guess the weather is overly hot and humid for the 2 men to risk their life swimming. I am not sure of the depth of the river but with rainy season like now, it can certainly trigger flash flood.
Well, this is my first ride in Shanghai Pudong. Certainly look forward to trying out other tracks. May have to look a bit harder to see where else to cycle. I am still keen to see if I can cycle into Century Park from Seasons Villas but don't seem to find a track now.作者: iamdb 时间: 2007-7-8 20:55

Well, the river is not exactly muddy but greenish. For sure you can't see the river floor from the bank. I am hoping to find a cycling track not along the main road to Century Park. Hopefully, the track is along the river. Any other track in Pudong that you reckon is worth trying out?作者: iamdb 时间: 2007-7-9 01:02
actually. im not familiar with the road in Pudong New Area...i live in Puxi:)
U may ask some one else for the infomation. I'm sure that they will be helpful.
