First introduced in 1971, this is the second generation of Cino Cinelli's M71 clipless pedal. Second generation Cinelli pedals can be identified by their exposed spring (as shown) together with the big round hole in the platform. The earlier (first generation) Cinelli pedal is identified by a big square hole in both the platform and the cleat. The third and final generation Cinelli M71 pedal is identified by a round hole in the platform and a spring unit enclosed in a housing.
